RVers who plan to attend the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games may have trouble finding a place to stay with their motorhomes or trailers. Vancouver’s only metro RV park, the Capilano RV Park in North Vancouver, British Columbia, is already booked solid. Ninety percent of the park’s 208 visitor spaces are reserved by Americans, most from California and Washington. The games run February 12 to 28 throughout the Vancouver area, with many events in the nearby ski resort town of Whistler.
The last time the Capilano RV Park saw such crowds was in in 1986, when Vancouver hosted the World’s Fair.
Meanwhile, the Burnaby Cariboo RV Park and Campground in nearby Burnaby is also totally booked. It’s 217 spaces were taken within five months of the announcement of the 2010 winter games. The park is a ten-minute walk from Vancouver’s Sky Train, which runs every few minutes and will transport RVers near the doorstep of most Olympic venues.
Because of the huge crowds expected for the games, RV park owners from throughout the Western Canada region will gather April 30 to discuss the need for more spaces. RV spaces in British Columbia have declined in recent times, while demand has gone up.
