At least 28 states now have at least one state park with wireless internet access (WiFi), according to USA Today. Three years ago, none of California’s 278 parks had the service. Now 50 are so equipped, including state beaches at Malibu, San Clemente and Half Moon Bay.
Officials who were surveyed say that of America’s 3,208 state parks,, six percent now have either free or pay-per-use Wi-Fi. Often it is at a single location, such as a campground or a lodge lobby.
Some states, including Tennessee and Kansas, plan to equip every park with it. California, with its 50 wired parks, leads in number of state parks already set up with WiFi. Other current leaders are Kentucky and Ohio with 17 parks, Texas with 16, Georgia with 13 and Alabama with 11. Twenty-three states have yet to set up WiFi in their state parks.
